MODERN FILTER PRESSING

Filter presses are the 200 year old workhorse of the liquid/solid separation industry. With the filtration pressures which they can exert they provide the highest Dry Solids.

Now, using THIN filterpress cakes, ( 6mm - 12mm ) a new dimension is opened

Unlike a thick cake, the filtercake does not takeover from the filtercloth as the main barrier to filtration as the cycle proceeds

(resulting in the long tail filtration curve)

THIN cakes will produce

  • a much higher final dry solids ( 80-90 % )

  • a much shorter filtration time

  • this combination means many fewer filterplates are required for a given dry solids percentage output

  • MAJOR ENERGY SAVINGS are made possible by the higher final dry solids % in the thin filter cake

(Proven with dyestuffs and coal washery slurries)

An actual filtration curve for a sand/clay mixture demonstrating this is shown on Page 2, and 66% of commercial slurries will follow this filtration pattern.

HOWEVER

THIN filterpress cakes do not have sufficient weight to release themselves from the filtercloth when the chambers open, and the standard plate movement mechanism must be replaced

  • a fast positive cake removal system, and chamber opener, which acts with the shorter filtration time, and many fewer filter plates, completely replaces it. PATENTED. The essence of the patent will be described to genuinely interested parties

  • NOTE

  • a simple test of your slurry on a Laboratory Test press will prove the applicability

  • existing filter presses could be converted

  • There could be a tax bonus. (Using a UK Patent can qualify for a reduction in Corporation tax from 19% to 10%)
